In Ayurvedic wisdom fall and early winter are considered Vata season in the Northern Hemisphere.
Vata is the subtle energy associated with movement and change— composed of ether and air. In balance, vata promotes creativity and flexibility. Out of balance, vata produces fear, ungroundedness, and anxiety.
Fall has always been a hard season for me, but Fall 2020 is shaping up to be an especially intense one. Climate catastrophes, anti-black violence, obscenely growing economic inequities, the election, the pandemic…there’s a lot to feed our fear and anxiety during a time when our creativity and flexibility are so needed.
It’s time to recommit to practice. Please join me! Drawing from qi-gong, yoga, and ayurveda, I’ll offer basic practices to help anchor and soothe during the season of wind and change. Like the classes I offered in the spring, I’ll focus on strengthening lungs and working with emotions like grief, anxiety, fear and rage.
My intention is for the class to be accessible to beginners as well as seasoned yogis, and my hope is that there are aspects of this practice that you can repeat and create rhythms and routines that can help you to build resilience to face change with grace and creativity. Join me for one day or every day, as it fits your schedules and needs.
I’ll start with 3 days in a row around the Fall Equinox (Tues/Wed/Thurs, beginning September 22nd, 2020) and then we’ll move to a weekly practice on Wednesday mornings. All classes begin at 10amET/9amCT/8amMT/7amPT.
This class series has concluded. We look forward to sharing another practice series with Kavitha soon.
