In Ayurvedic wisdom fall and early winter are considered Vata season in the Northern Hemisphere. Vata is the subtle energy associated with movement and change— composed of ether and air. In balance, vata promotes creativity and flexibility. Out of balance, vata produces fear, ungroundedness, and anxiety.

Fall has always been a hard season for me, but Fall 2020 is shaping up to be an especially intense one. Climate catastrophes, anti-black violence, obscenely growing economic inequities, the election, the pandemic…there’s a lot to feed our fear and anxiety during a time when our creativity and flexibility are so needed.

It’s time to recommit to practice.  Please join me!  Drawing from qi-gong, yoga, and ayurveda, I’ll offer basic practices to help anchor and soothe during the season of wind and change. Like the classes I offered in the spring, I’ll focus on strengthening lungs and working with emotions like grief, anxiety, fear and rage.

My intention is for the class to be accessible to beginners as well as seasoned yogis, and my hope is that there are aspects of this practice that you can repeat and create rhythms and routines that can help you to build resilience to face change with grace and creativity.  Join me for one day or every day, as it fits your schedules and needs.

I’ll start with 3 days in a row around the Fall Equinox (Tues/Wed/Thurs, beginning September 22nd, 2020) and then we’ll move to a weekly practice on Wednesday mornings. All classes begin at 10amET/9amCT/8amMT/7amPT.

This class series has concluded. We look forward to sharing another practice series with Kavitha soon.

Our minds are still racing back and forth, longing for a return to “normality”, trying to stitch our future to our past and refusing to acknowledge the rupture. But the rupture exists… Historically, pandemics have forced humans to break with the past and imagine their world anew. This one is no different. It is a portal, a gateway between one world and the next.—Arundhati Roy

As we watch the world changing around us…how are we changing with it?

Ayurvedic wisdom teaches us that in order to ensure proper immunity during challenging times, we must build our agni (digestive fire) and learn ways to bring excess stress back into balance.  Please join me next week for morning practice. I have taught yoga for 18 years, and will be integrating meditation, pranayama, qigong, and other practices that I have found helpful in strengthening my lungs and immune system and in working with grief, anxiety, and my own fear and resistance to change and letting go.

My intention is for the class to be accessible to beginners as well as seasoned yogis.  Join me for one day or every day, as it fits your schedules and needs. All are welcome.. I’ll share about a 45 min practice and then I’ll stay on after if anyone wants to stay on with me to ask any questions or share what’s on their heart or minds.

10am ET/7am PT  Wed. April 15 – Sunday April 19, 2020

Please try to sign in 5 min early so we can start on time.  I ask that everyone stay on mute once the practice begins until it ends.  There will be time at the end for conversation if you choose to stay. If you have a yoga mat please bring it and whatever will help you be comfortable for sitting — pillows or a folded blanket or yoga blocks or even a chair if you prefer.
